BRUNSWICK BALLROOM – SUNDAY 26 MAY – matinee

STELLA: The Miles Franklin Story in concert

Doors 1pm // Kitchen Open // Show Starts 2pm

Starring ALMA ZYGIER and FEM BELLING with Monique diMattina, Xani Kolac, Esther Henderson, Kalina Krusteva, Cat Canteri and Sam Lemann.

Although the Miles Franklin Award is Australia’s most prestigious literary prize, most Australians are unaware that Miles was a woman, let alone the details of her extraordinary life.

Come hear songs and skits from the show-in-development in an intimate unplugged concert, while Monique narrates stories about Stella and the wild ride getting a new Australian musical up and running.

This will be the last concert version of STELLA before the theatrical debut in 2025.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING about STELLA

Brilliant, fascinating!

A magical telling of the story of a truly inspirational Australian legend!

One of the best things I’ve seen in years – this will be a monster musical!

Such a clever production. Important story about both Stella and Australian history. Beautifully developed and will be a fabulous full production

The ballads were heart wrenching, and the up tempo songs were joyous. I was so impressed and proud to be in the audience. Thank you

I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s clever, engaging and beautifully performed. I feel like I’ve just watched a birth – very exciting!

News

My latest album TIDES for solo piano was composed between the hours of 9-10pm during the pandemic – a discrete window in which the kids were asleep and my neighbours could handle piano coming through the terrace house walls.  Previous solo piano albums were largely improvised whereas TIDES is almost all notated,  so I could make sheet music versions available to the army of Covid home pianists of various skill levels.  She Reads Me from TIDES is now on the VCE Piano Performance curriculum.

You can check out TIDES on the homepage, and subscribe to the quarterly newsletter for latest news.
